About Dr. Lake
Dr. Monica Lake received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Pace University, NY where she graduated with honors and was inducted into several honor societies. She earned her masters degree in Counseling also from Pace University while she was employed as an admissions counselor. As a result of her performance, she was awarded outstanding graduate student in her class. She went on to earn an Educational Psychology & Methodology masters, and a certificate of advanced studies and doctoral degree in School Psychology from the University at Albany-SUNY, NY.
In addition to being a licensed psychologist, Dr. Lake holds a National Certification in School Psychology (NCSP) and is a licensed school psychologist. She has over 10 years of experience working with children as young as 2 years old, but her clients also include many adults. She is currently an adjunct lecturer for a Mental Health Counseling graduate program. In addition to a strong background in counseling and assessment, Dr. Lake has expert knowledge on gifted populations. She worked at Johns Hopkins University - Center for Talented Youth and completed her dissertation on this topic. Dr. Lake grew up in Portugal and moved to the United States when she was 16 year old. She is fluent in Portuguese and English. She is able to provide services in both languages.
Dr. Lake has been highly successful in helping individuals and families work through a wide range of issues. Her approach is sensitive to developmental growth and builds on individual personal strengths and values. Her expertise have been featured on www.goodtherapy.org.
When not at work, Dr. Lake enjoys traveling, going to the beach, gardening, photography and spending time with her husband, daughters, and pug.
