What form of therapy does Dr. Lake practice?

Dr. Lake utilizes Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies (CBT), including MATCH-ADTC, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT). These forms of treatment have shown to be highly effective as they work on helping youth and adults gain perspective, change behavior, and improve mood. This form of therapy teaches a variety of skills that assist in improving life.

In some cases, Dr. Lake may choose Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), which focuses on building solutions rather than focusing on problems. This approach is of shorter duration and works well with motivated clients who present straightforward issues. In cases where motivation for change is an issue, Dr. Lake utilizes Motivational Interviewing (MI) techniques in conjunction with other approaches (e.g., CBT).

Dr. Lake also uses Skillstreaming and Social Stories with children and adolescents who demonstrate a need for improvement in social skills. Mindfulness and meditation have shown healing effects on stress reduction, anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, impulse control, etc. These skills are often integrated in counseling sessions.
