Hello

I’m Evelyn!

I am a Registered Clinical Mental Health counselor who is recovery focused and truly believes anyone can improve their mental health by creating sustainable changes and practicing mental health fitness. I consider myself recovery focused because my goal is to empower individuals to live the life they want to be living and develop psychological flexibility in the process. Talking about mental health openly and removing the stigma around mental illness is one of my missions. The more we normalize and educate ourselves on mental health, the easier it is to break the barriers keeping people from seeking support.

Prior to working at Dr.Lake & Associates I worked with children and adolescents providing individual and group therapy for anxiety, OCD, depression, personality disorders, and grief. In addition, I also provided therapeutic services to children and adolescents with Autism and selective mutism for two years using psychoeducation, healthy coping skills, and developing a safe space for social interactions. My main focus of interest is working with anxiety Disorders, OCD, and depression using Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Through these evidence-based treatments I work with tailoring it to each individual based on their therapeutic goals and needs. Through experience I have witnessed these modalities be very successful for individuals struggling with Anxiety, OCD, and depression.

I graduated with my Bachelor’s in Psychology and English from Florida International University where I trained under licensed therapists and graduate students as a research assistant. Afterwards I continued my higher education and received my Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University. I am bilingual, and can provide services in English and spanish. Aside from my love for being a therapist, I have a strong interest in fashion, design, skateboarding, and staying physically active! I am a strong believer that creativity and movement can be great outlets to heal and move forward in life. My motto is "there is no such thing as “normal” and we should all embrace what makes us unique individuals!"
