Hello!

My name is Karen Sochor. I am a licensed mental health counselor and I specialize in working with children, adolescents, and their parents. It is my goal to help young people to develop skills based on their personal strengths that will empower them to live their best life. The years I spent in the school system gave me a unique opportunity to advocate for the needs of children and support parents in the process. I know first hand, how overwhelming it can be as a parent when you are trying to find help for your child. That is why I made the decision to dedicate my life to providing hope for children and their families by building a relationship that caring and supportive.

I find the greatest success I have with young clients includes a collaborative relationship with parents. I believe parents have the most in-depth knowledge about their child and that we are a team and all need to work together for the good of the child. Based on that philosophy, I encourage parents to be active participants in the therapeutic process. It is no secret that our young people are struggling more now than ever before. Whether your child is struggling in school, or with social situations, or just doesn't seem to be okay, I am here to help. I don't have all the answers, but we can partner to help your child see a brighter tomorrow.

I have worked with children, adolescents, and their families in a crisis hospital setting, intensive outpatient program, and in private practice. I have a passion for helping young people find their voice by building a trusting caring relationship with them. I utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches, including play, that are all grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy. I am also a registered yoga teacher (RYT) and find that some of the aspects of yoga integrate well into strategies for strong mental health.

I have a master's degree in counseling and a bachelor's degree in special education all from the University of South Florida. Go Bulls! I spent twenty five years in the school system working as a teacher of children with special needs and as a school counselor. I am also a Qualified Supervisor in Florida.

In my spare time I love to practice yoga, spend time with family, especially my grandsons, kayaking, and going to the beach with friends. I have two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, one of which is a certified therapy dog that spent ten years working with children in the schools.
