My Word: advocate
My name is Lianna Malawski and I specialize in working with adults, young adults and adolescents. I am prided in my ability to provide mental health services to those in need and look forward to keep doing so with this team at Dr. Lake & Associates!
I am a strong social justice advocate and am passionate about working with the local BIPOC community. And as a former Division II athlete and with prior experience working with DI and DIII universities, I also provide services for athletes looking to improve their performance skillset and add to their mental skills toolbox. I am trained in various evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness approaches, and have experience working with depression, anxiety, trauma, life skills, substance use, and anger management. My approach toward therapy is to create a safe and brave space for those who are currently struggling. I take a client-centered approach where I believe the client is the expert on their experience and I am there as a supportive guide to help uncover those strong emotional feelings. By creating a validating and encouraging counseling space I ultimately wish for my clients to find their power and improve their well-being.
I have a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a specialty in Sport Psychology from Boston University, a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a double minor in Exercise Science and Sports Performance and Coaching from Appalachian State University. I am a Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern being supervised by Dr. Monica Lake.
Lianna enjoys traveling, being around family and friends and is a big foodie!
