My Word: Envision
My name is Jaitesha Hanson, but I also go by Tesh! I’m a former athlete who became inspired to help people envision themselves in wellness and wellbeing. During my collegiate career, I became aware that many athletes suffer from mental health challenges and could benefit from supports beyond coaching. As a Division 1 player, I really came to understand the demands and pressure that are placed on players to get and stay at a high level. I began my helping journey by founding a nonprofit called StayWhole, where we provide guidance, mentorship, and encouragement for athletes. I also wrote a book called Unraveling: What Does Your Smile Hide?
Working with athletes inspired me to become a therapist. Currently, I work mainly with young adults, children, and adolescents. My approach is to take each client through a journey of self-awareness and understanding while making it a fun and encouraging process. I’m trained in various evidence-based modalities including Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness approaches. Being able to see the Self and parts that are extensions of ourselves is a main theme of my sessions. We take on different roles as an individual and one “bad” experience does not define who we are. My goal is to show how we can access our Self to heal any wounded part. I also use creative therapy (e.g., art and movement), mindfulness, and CBT strategies to enhance the emotional toolbox we each have.
I have a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (Walden University), a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and a minor in Alternative Health (University of North Florida). I am a Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern being supervised by Dr. Monica Lake.
Tesh enjoys being around family and friends when she isn’t doing anything creative or playing sports!
