Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern

Hi, I'm Josiah,
I am a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern who is passionate about helping children, adolescents, and adults better understand themselves, recognize their strengths, and work toward meaningful change. Beginning counseling can feel uncomfortable or overwhelming, especially when you are unsure what to expect. I strive to create a welcoming, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, respected, and comfortable being themselves.
I work with children and adolescents experiencing emotional regulation difficulties, anger, behavioral concerns, family challenges, and school-related stress. I also support adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship concerns, and major life transitions. My clinical experience includes outpatient counseling, crisis stabilization, and community-based mental health services. These experiences have taught me how to meet clients where they are and adapt counseling to each person’s needs, personality, developmental level, values, and goals.
I believe the counseling relationship is an important part of the healing process. My style is warm, collaborative, and practical. In sessions, I balance compassionate listening with active guidance, helping clients recognize patterns, develop healthier coping skills, and apply what they learn outside of therapy. My approach is person-centered, strengths-based, and integrative, meaning that I do not use the same method with every client.
Depending on each client’s needs, I may incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and family-systems interventions. These approaches can help clients examine unhelpful patterns, strengthen motivation, make decisions that align with their values, identify practical solutions, and take realistic steps toward their goals. When working with children and younger adolescents, I also incorporate play-based and activity-based techniques to make counseling engaging and developmentally appropriate.
I have completed basic training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based approach that can help individuals process trauma and other distressing experiences that continue to affect their emotions, beliefs, or relationships. I am also trained in Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT), which focuses on strengthening family relationships and changing communication or interaction patterns that may contribute to emotional or behavioral concerns.
Faith can be an important source of meaning, hope, and support. For clients who desire it, I offer Christian counseling that thoughtfully integrates biblical principles, prayer, and the client’s personal faith with sound clinical practices. The extent to which faith is incorporated is always guided by each client’s preferences, beliefs, and counseling goals.
I earned my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University. As a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern, I practice under qualified clinical supervision while completing Florida’s post-master’s licensure requirements. It is a privilege to walk alongside clients as they process difficult experiences, strengthen relationships, develop practical skills, and move toward greater emotional, relational, and spiritual well-being.
