Counseling

What form of therapy do we practice?

We utilize Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies (CBT), including Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT) strategies, Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Exposure Response Prevention (ERP). These forms of treatment have shown to be highly effective as they work on helping youth and adults gain perspective, change behavior, and improve mood. These forms of therapy teaches a variety of skills that assist in improving life and gaining insight.

For younger children we integrate play and expressive art therapeutic methods. This helps then engage, connect, stay interested, and learn about themselves and their experiences in a fun way!

In some cases, we may choose Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), which focuses on building solutions rather than focusing on problems. This approach is of shorter duration and works well with motivated clients who present straightforward issues. In cases where motivation for change is an issue, we also utilize Motivational Interviewing (MI) techniques in conjunction with other approaches (e.g., CBT).

We use the PEERs program with children and adolescents who demonstrate a need for improvement in social skills. Mindfulness and meditation have shown healing effects on stress reduction, anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, impulse control, etc. These activities may be integrated in counseling sessions as needed or requested.

What counseling groups is Dr. Lake & Associates offering?
