About Dr. Lake
Dr. Monica Lake received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Pace University, NY where she graduated with honors and was inducted into several honor societies. She earned her master's degree in Counseling also from Pace University while she was employed as an admissions counselor for the university. Her performance resulted in an "outstanding graduate student" recognition award for her graduate studies. She went on to earn an Educational Psychology & Methodology masters, and a certificate of advanced studies and a doctoral degree in School Psychology from the University at Albany-SUNY, NY. Today she is licensed to practice in both NY and FL.
In addition to being a licensed psychologist, Dr. Lake holds a National Certification in School Psychology (NCSP). She has over 12 years of experience working with children as young as 2 years old, but her clients also include many adults. She is currently an adjunct lecturer for a Mental Health Counseling graduate program and provides student and professional supervision. In addition to a strong background in counseling and assessment, she has expert knowledge in gifted populations. She worked at Johns Hopkins University - Center for Talented Youth (CTY) and completed her dissertation on the topic of giftedness.
Dr. Lake grew up in Portugal and moved to the United States when she was 16 years old. She is fluent in Portuguese and English and able to provide services in both languages.
Dr. Lake has been highly successful in helping individuals and families work through a wide range of emotional and behavioral issues. Her approach is sensitive to developmental growth and builds on individual personal strengths and values. Her expertise has been featured on www.goodtherapy.org.
When not at work, Dr. Lake enjoys traveling, going to the beach, gardening, photography, and crafting, She also enjoys spending time with her husband, daughters, pug, and chickens!
